The Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur match will be in the schedule of the 13th week of the Premier League at Anfield, Thursday morning, December 17, 2020. The match will start at 03.00 WIB.
Ahead of this match, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp praised Tottenham Hotspur coach, Jose Mourinho. He admitted that he was not surprised to see the Portuguese coach's success with the Spurs.
Tottenham are currently at the top of the standings with a goal difference advantage over Liverpool, although both teams have both collected 25 points. This can not be separated from the positive trend of 11 matches unbeaten that is currently being undertaken by Tottenham.
"I'm not surprised. You might be considered very successful until yesterday and when you fail to prove it today, people will immediately launch criticism," said Jurgen Klopp , Wednesday WIB.
"That's the reality and I don't think Mourinho himself was surprised. He showed a revival. He turned Tottenham into a machine that can always achieve results," he added.
This, continued Klopp, not only happened when Tottenham were at their best, even when the Lilywhites didn't perform well they could still win, and acknowledged that fact as something impressive.
Liverpool have the chance to displace Tottenham from the top of the table if they win at Anfield tomorrow, but conditions at the top of the Premier League remain solid, with currently only five points from the top to eighth.
According to Klopp, this cannot be separated from the fact that no single club can record a clean sweep of wins early in the season like Liverpool did last year or Manchester City the previous year again.
"Currently the condition is like that, whether entering February, March, April and May. Honestly, I don't know," he said.
"This league always has good teams, and usually there are teams that run alone in the front lines, but this year it doesn't feel like it's happening. It keeps us in tight situations together. Of course it's fun for the crowd."
How did Jose Mourinho respond to Klopp's praise? He chose humility.
"The machines that always produce are Liverpool in recent years and Chelsea which I worked with when we won two league titles in a row," Mourinho said.
"We're a good team who have to work hard, but Liverpool is the result of if I'm not mistaken Jurgen's 1,894 days worked, correct me if I'm counting the days wrong."
"While we are the result of 390 days of work, which is actually not a full count, because most of those days we don't work but undergo quarantine and stay at home."
Mourinho also considered Liverpool's injury storm to be an exaggeration, because according to him Klopp had only lost one important player, namely Virgil van Dijk.
"Van Dijk is injured and he is of course a very good player, but give me a Liverpool injury list and compare it to Liverpool's list of best players," he said.
Mourinho has clearly overlooked the fact that Liverpool first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been sidelined many times this season, the same is true of their captain Jordan Henderson.
