Sad news comes from actor known for starring in 1954 Godzilla , Akira Takarada. The actor died at the age of 87.
His death was confirmed yesterday (17 March) in a tweet from Toho Studios, the production company behind 1954's most influential monster Movie.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Akira Takarada. May his memory continue to inspire the lives of many Godzilla fans." wrote the tweet.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Takarada played Hideto Ogata in the original Godzilla, a sailor who works with the Japanese Coast Guard after the monster sinks a ship. The actor also starred in the US re-edit of Godzilla: King Of The Monsters with Raymond Burr in 1956.
He continued to star in Movies throughout his career with roles in 1964's Mothra vs Godzilla, 1966's Godzilla vs the Sea Monsters, 1992's Godzilla vs Mothra, and 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars.
The actor also Movieed scenes from the 2014 US Godzilla remake directed by Gareth Edwards, who did not participate in the final Movie.
His other accolades include monster Movies such as King Kong Escapes in 1967 and Half Human in 1955. He also provided the Japanese voice for the character Jafar in Disney's Aladdin and the video game series Kingdom Hearts .
