Those who drink alcohol know what it's like to wake up with a headache, trying to remember what we said and did during the last night of heavy drinking. Then suddenly, the memory came back vividly.
Alcohol sets us free, makes us say and do things we should avoid. People often drink because they feel that alcohol builds courage in them when faced with difficult situations.
We understand why drinking alcohol is before going on a blind date or other social event - alcohol can help calm our nerves and build self-confidence. This is because alcohol has a depressant effect that makes us feel more relaxed.
Of course, the effects of alcohol are not all positive. We have nicknames for our characters that appear after drinking a few glasses. Maybe you are a “happy drunk,” or maybe you have a reputation for being a “crazy drunk” who gets irritated easily after being exposed to alcohol.

But in our study, we tried to get a clear picture of how alcohol drinking, empathy, and moral behavior are related.
While drinking alcohol can affect our empathy, making us respond inappropriately to other people's emotions and reactions, it doesn't necessarily change our moral standards, or the principles we use to distinguish between right and wrong.
In one experiment , we gave participants a glass of vodka and measured their empathy and moral choices.
We showed them pictures of various people with different emotional expressions. After drinking more vodka, the participants responded inappropriately to these emotional images: they responded positively to sad faces and negatively to happy faces.
The more drunk people are, the weaker their empathy is – drinking a few drinks weakens people's ability to understand and share emotions with others.
