BTS's Official Instagram Account Attacked By Chinese Netizens After RM Expressed Support For South Korean Athletes

RM Showed His Support And Cheered On Korean Short Track Skater, Hwang Dae Heon, And Posted A Video Via Instagram Story Showing The Skater Entering The Finish Line At Number 1.

RM ( Rap Monster ) BTS ( Bangtan Boys ) joined the winter match and showed their support for the Korean athletes who competed. However, BTS's official Instagram was filled with malicious comments directed at RM after he posted a video of the short track race in support of South Korea.

On February 7, the 1000 meter sprint race for the semifinals took place. On this day, Hwang Dae Heon crossed the finish line in first place in the men's 1000 meters semifinal group 1 race. However, Hwang Dae Heon, who maintained his lead until the end despite aggressive fouls from the Chinese skaters, failed to advance to the final because the referee awarded him a controversial penalty stating that he made an illegal late pass that caused contact.

However, BTS's RM showed his support and cheered on the Korean short track skater and posted a video via Instagram Story showing the skater entering the finish line at number 1. He posted a short video with applause emoticons and thumbs up emoticons cheering for the South Korean athlete.

RM's post apparently angered some Chinese netizens when they flooded BTS's official Instagram and left malicious comments that included the vomit emoticon and/or middle finger emoticon. Since individual BTS member accounts only allow comments from people they follow , these Chinese netizens also flooded BTS's official Instagram account to leave various hate comments.

Many Korean netizens expressed their bewilderment over this whole incident as they didn't understand why they had gathered on BTS's social media to direct their anger at the group. Many Korean netizens accused South Korea of being the one who suffered injustice because the South Korean team was wrongly disqualified.

These Korean netizens gathered in online communities to criticize that Chinese short track skaters were allowed to reach the semi-finals despite fouls throughout the race. This online community includes videos showing examples of Chinese athletes appearing to cheat during competitions and being aggressive towards other athletes and not facing penalties.

Korean netizens commented, "How did this become the Olympics?" "It's so unfair how Korean athletes who were dragged away were disqualified but Chinese athletes made it to the final, lol," "They shouldn't call this the Olympics, it's so biased," "It's really sad how the Korean team was disqualified," and "Wow, what just I see? Is this real?"

Regarding BTS's Instagram being terrorized, they commented, "I really don't know why they took it out on RM or BTS," "RM is King because he still shows support no matter what malicious comments he gets," "Now BTS's Instagram is full with purple hearts because ARMY added comments to prevent those malicious comments," "Since BTS is global, I'm glad they don't have to care about the Chinese market," "He is King-tan, lol," "I love how he shows support," "I really don't understand why they are expressing anger at BTS," "I should have added purple hearts too, lol," and "I'm not even a fan of BTS and still put purple hearts in there, lol."
